URBAN-15’s Dia de los Santos Procession

In collaboration with the Center for Mexican-American Studies at Our Lady of the Lake University and the District 5 Councilwoman, Shirley Gonzales, URBAN-15’s drummers, dancers, and OLLU students will offer homage and tributes through illumination, dance and rhythms that honor our families and friends who have passed since last year’s commemoration.

The procession, which appears as a traveling altar of lights, will begin in the public parking space on the east-side of Elmendorf Lake at 7 p.m. It moves slowly through the park stopping at its plazas and then proceeds down the island to the bridge that unites the Park with Our Lady of the Lake University. This community procession will travel to the Main Library. There, a special altar constructed by students, will honor the twenty-two people who were murdered in the EL Paso Massacre and a performance of dancers and drummers will begin as URBAN-15 and the OLLU students celebrate the joyful memories of our dear departed friends and family in this traditional ceremony.
