Joshua M G McCormick received his BA in 2008 and MFA in 2019 from the School of
the Art Institute of Chicago. He has also trained at The Ox-Bow School of Art in
Michigan. He has exhibited and performed widely at institutions including Camayuhs,
Atlanta; the Soap Factory, Minneapolis; 2nd Floor Rear Festival, Chicago; Links Hall,
Chicago; and the Chicago Artist Coalition. McCormick has participated in the ACRE
Residency in Wisconsin and collaborated with Project Firebird in Chicago and
Juxtaposition Arts in Minneapolis. He is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at
Texas State University’s School of Art and Design, 2023-2024; he was previously a
lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an instructor and technician
at Northwestern University. McCormick has previously taught at After School Matters,
Art Reach, and ElevArte Community Studios in Chicago.

Artist Statement of Work
Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):
Joshua M G McCormick is an interdisciplinary artist focusing on ceramic-made art
objects, which he activates through performance. McCormick uses different facets of
his practice, from costume design to two-dimensional environments he creates to
perform with his ceramic sculptures. McCormick works near a fictitious collaborator
and alter-ego named Moises Imbatchi. Together, they are the architects of a
phantasmagorical world where time travel is possible, and seemingly unrelated
performances connect as windows or vignettes to an archive of temporal
experiments.
