Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

As a professional artist, for over 25 years, my creative vigor has led to establishing a history of numerous commissions, countless acquisitions, and innumerable exhibitions. As my reputation flourished, my art continued to diversify and my senses heightened, I chose to continually explore and push the boundaries of creativity. Art has become part of my everyday inner life. Born in the Coahuiltecan region of Mexico, naturalized a US citizen, I am able to leverage the cultural, social and imaginative power of my multiculturalism. The richness of my culture has been the strongest influence when I create a project. I am always looking to honor my roots while at the same time embracing diversity. Having toiled in the cotton fields as a child, I borrow and adapt the characteristics of nature, the differences of social discord, the strife of the underprivileged and blend these into creating art that is aesthetic, engaged and culturally empowering. I create art to awaken the human psyche, create awareness in subjects that impact culture, the environment, historical events and human relationships. I research my subject carefully, create a concept and apply my knowledge and expertise of materials and mediums. My life-long dedication and production of art has led to creating a 3-dimensional depiction of structure and design, enabling me to transfer my artwork to public and environmental art where I have been commissioned to develop several sculptures and installations.
