Artist Type: Performing Arts: Musician; Teaching Artist/Instructor
As a classical concert pianist, my role is to bring to life the wealth of music written over the last four centuries with authenticity, intention, and respect for both the composer’s vision and my own voice. Each performance is an opportunity to illuminate the profound beauty and emotional depth of the music we share, expressing sentiments that words cannot fully capture. I approach every performance as a unique experience, designed to engage and inspire the audience with fresh perspectives. Like a Michelin-starred chef curating a tasting menu, I carefully craft each program to create a cohesive and organic journey, where each piece of music unfolds naturally into the next. My performances are never acts of ego, but acts of sharing—centered on the music and its capacity to connect. It is never solely about the performers on stage; it is about serving the art and fostering a meaningful, collective experience.
I strive to make my performances as accessible as possible by reaching out to all corners of my community, and exploring unconventional venues, often partnering creatively with businesses that may not initially engage with classical music. To further ensure accessibility, I work to keep costs reasonable while ensuring fair compensation for all performers, highlighting the essential role of grants in supporting artists like myself. To foster a deeper connection with audiences, I design programs with thoughtful thematic elements. Through spoken insights, I gently guide listeners on a meaningful journey. Collaboration is central to my work as a pianist. Whether partnering with instrumentalists or vocalists, I believe that collaboration elevates everyone involved, inspiring us to achieve our best. Above all, I am committed to artistic growth and to delivering the highest level of artistry and experience to my audiences, ensuring every performance is both impactful and memorable.
Education is also central to me as an artist. In my upbringing as a pianist, I have been fortunate to work with mentors who are performers and teachers of the highest caliber. Their guidance not only inspired me to lay the groundwork of strong musicianship for my students, but also to continuously refine my own teaching, ensuring I approach each student with empathy. When mentoring students, I strive to understand their unique needs. By fostering a supportive environment, I encourage them to express their thoughts, challenges, and goals. My goal is to provide my students with the foundation and ability to listen, execute, and think independently, becoming self-sufficient and adaptable learners. I consider every teaching opportunity a privilege, and my goal is always the same: to excite students, impart wisdom, and share my love for music.
