Institute of Texan Cultures

Established by the Texas State Legislature in 1965 to showcase the state’s rich heritage for HemisFair ‘68, the Institute of Texan Cultures has been the state’s leading institution for exploring the many cultures that shaped Texas’ history, character, and identity. The Institute of Texan Cultures is a gateway to understanding the rich tapestry of cultures that have shaped Texas. It honors and celebrates the many ways that communities from around the world influenced Texas history and culture through music, dance, food, storytelling, traditions, religion, artisan skills, and ways of life.  The museum explores Texas’ cultural history, sharing knowledge through: 

• Engaging exhibits, programs, and events that entertain, educate, and inspire 

• Outreach programs connecting with schools and community groups 

• Educational resources supporting lifelong learning
