Adria Garza

Visual Arts: Painter

Adria Garza is a visual artist living and working in San Antonio, Texas. In 2015, she received a Bachelors Degree of Fine Art from The University of Texas at San Antonio with a specialization in drawing and painting. Garza currently works from her studio at Hausmann Millworks. She exhibits an energetic, painterly texture in her artwork with a passion for the human figure and portraiture. Depicting the human form expressively while interpreting the mood of the image with an intuitive sense of color is the driving force behind her work. In addition to her figurative work she enjoys depicting objects with surface qualities she considers to be dynamic and alluring. Using various mediums she strives to create depth and balance using abstract mark making paired with the representational subjects she chooses to explore.

Doroteo Garza

Originally from the Rio Grande valley, moved to San Antonio in 2009. I explore indigenous folk stories through my work, specifically the mythology of Texas; how it relates to the cosmos and our modern life. Working to incorporate these legends into physical space, with multi layers of understanding presented in a pleasing aesthetic.

Verena Gaudy

Verena Gaudy is a contemporary ceramic artist, and a graduate to the MFA program at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is currently a Senior Lecturer, teaching Basic Ceramics and Advanced Ceramics at UTSA. During the past five years she collaborated with Martin C. Rodriguez in performance art and is the co-founder and gallerist of Un Grito Gallery. Verena was born in Graz, Austria in 1975. After high school graduation, she spent ten years living, working and studying in London (UK), Stockholm (Sweden) and Cardiff (UK), where she achieved her BFA at the University of Wales, Institute Cardiff in 2005. San Antonio has been her home since August 2015.

Laurel Gibson

American artist Laurel Gibson is based in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated with honors from Northern Arizona University with a bachelor's degree of Fine Art, emphasis in ceramics in 2000. Gibson later went on to study in Paris and Avignon, France, then received a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Texas-San Antonio in ceramics in 2005. She attended residencies at The Vermont Studio Center and in Oysterville Washington. Laurel has taught classes and workshops at local universities, art galleries, museums and through community outreach organizations. She states, “I believe art is a vehicle of expression when words and actions are no longer possible.” She is passionate about supporting disadvantaged communities and the empowerment of women and children. In 2017, Laurel Gibson was awarded the Arts & Letters Award from the Friends of the San Antonio Public Library for outstanding contributions to the artistic and literary community of San Antonio. Laurel received a grant from The National Endowment of the Arts for her embroidered artworks for the Old Spanish Trail Highway in which she was also named the official artist.

Sage Gibson

She has a BFA in Art & Architectural Engineering. (Mom & Dad would not settle for Art alone) Her Art-Q-Tectural Career has taken many paths, with Cow Parades in Austin & San Antonio, Fiesta & Folklife Posters, Gallery Exhibitions & Art Shows across America. Her Art can be found around the globe, she has curated for various Art organizations. She is a past President of The River Art Group & Gallery. SO....It is only natural that her two worlds would eventually collide! Her hand built multi-dimensional architectural forms are a process she developed. Hand dyed Batiks are her palette. Xavier Gilmore

Xavier Gilmore is an interdisciplinary artist and producer who works in sound, traditional mediums and collaborative performance. Through his work, he explores ideas on dissent, abstraction and social topography. He has exhibited regionally and internationally at Artpace, Southwest School of Art, Museo Soumaya and the McNay, among others. Gilmore holds a BFA from UTSA and studied at School of the Art Institute Chicago, and Universidad de Las Américas Puebla, Cholula, México.

Dolores Godinez

For more than 25 years, Dolores Godinez was a teaching theatre artist and actor in Dallas, Texas. In 2014, she moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she was a teaching artist’s assistant at Young At Art Museum. Florida introduced her to a love of photography and exploration into visual art. She met great photographers, and Florida provided inspiration from the beauty of the local landscape. Her photographic focus started with intimate details of nature such as flowers, tiny leaves, and rock formations, as well as the ubiquitous bird photography scenes. During her time in Florida, she exhibited some of her work at Broward Art Guild, Young at Art Museum and Studio 18 at Pembroke Pines. She is now living in San Antonio. In the uniqueness of San Antonio, she continues to explore and define her photography. Her style has now turned to street photography. In February 2019, she exhibited a piece in San Antonio’s Street Fatale exhibit that showed the beauty of captured movement. In March and April 2020, her work is on exhibit at Centro Cultural Aztlan in a two person show called "La Mujer: Vida Y Valor." In February and March of 2021, her work was exhibited at Southtown Art Gallery. She holds a B.S. in Education (see more education information in the attached resume) and has studied under numerous professional photographers in South Florida. She shoots with a Leica Camera D-Lux 3. .

Braydon Gold

Braydon Gold is a sculptor and painter based in San Antonio Texas. He earned a Master’s of Fine Arts from the UT San Antonio in 2016 and a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the UT Arlington in 2012. Gold has been an art educator and coach for nearly 10 years and proudly serves as a member of the US Air Force Reserves. His artwork has been featured in exhibitions throughout the United States, and is owned by patrons and collectors from around the world. The act of creating art serves as a form of dynamic meditation for Braydon Gold. His work originates in a balance between a calm state of inner stillness and an energetic physical flow. For him, the process is an effective method of saying what can’t be expressed through words, and functions as a profound way of finding clarity and strength. The artwork that Gold creates represents the complex thoughts that dwell within his mind, symbolizes the nuanced emotions that reside within his heart, and abstractly commemorates pivotal moments within his life and within society. His artwork explores the intuitive nature of art making and the undeniable value of self expression. While Gold’s sculptures are generally characterized by their rugged materials and strong geometric forms, his paintings are mindfully tranquil, colorfully expressive, and show a distinct tension between the strong and the delicate. This unique and uncanny duality finely represents who Braydon Gold is as an artist, and as an individual.

Raul Rene Gonzalez

Raul Rene Gonzalez is a multidisciplinary artist who incorporates an astonishingly wide range of mediums and methods in his paintings, drawings, sculptures, clothing, murals, installations, live and recorded dance and other performance-based work. Largely autobiographical in nature, his work explores topics such as fatherhood, gender roles, labor, identity, pop culture and abstraction. A prolific creator who finds inspiration anywhere and everywhere, Gonzalez is known by art critics, curators, and friends alike for his unwavering energy, ambition and experimentation that has led to the creation of several hundred unique works over the past decade. He truly lives his motto: “Werk. Hustle. Sleep. Repeat.” A Houston native now based in San Antonio, Texas, Gonzalez’ experiences living in two of the biggest metropolitan cities in the country influence nearly all of his bodies of work—from detailed urban landscapes that pay homage to the workers who build and maintain our cities, to his wearable construction barrel suits, to his paintings that document key features of San Antonio’s musical history displayed permanently in City Hall. Gonzalez’s work has been featured widely throughout Texas and the United States, averaging one major solo exhibition a year in addition to numerous group or two-person shows. His work is included in the permanent collections of the National Mexican Museum of Art (Chicago, IL), the National Hispanic Cultural Center Art Museum (Albuquerque, NM), Mexic-Arte Museum (Austin, TX), the McNay Art Museum (San Antonio, TX), the University of Texas at San Antonio, and the City of San Antonio, among others. He has been featured in Glasstire, Southwest Contemporary, Create! Magazine, The San Antonio Express News, La Prensa Texas, and The Oxford American. Gonzalez has received artist grants from the Luminaria Artist Foundation, Sustainable Arts Foundation, National Association of Latino Arts and Culture, Dave Bown Projects, and the Surdna Foundation. In 2021 he was selected as San Antonio Museum of Art’s inaugural Artist-in-Residence and was named San Antonio Art League & Museum’s 2021 Artist of the Year. Gonzalez earned his M.F.A. in Art from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a B.F.A. in painting from the University of Houston. Gonzalez lives in San Antonio with his wife and two daughters. In addition to his full-time art career, he manages Werk House SA, a short-term rental Airbnb property and is the Director at Clamp Light Studios & Gallery, an artist-run space in San Antonio.

Galileo Gonzalez

Galileo Gonzalez is a visual artist born and raised in Southeast Los Angeles, and currently resides in San Antonio. He has earned his BFA in Drawing & Painting from California State University, Long Beach. Much of his work deals with his upbringing, the urban surroundings around him, and his Salvadoran heritage. His current work focuses on visually interpreting oral stories from the Salvadoran Civil War, as well as the diaspora that followed through generations. He has exhibited at the PÄS Gallery, AVD Gallery, Cerritos College Art Gallery, Fathom Space, Avenue 50 Studio, Dock Space Gallery, and the Museum of Latin American Art. His work is featured in the Cerritos College permanent art collection, as well as the Enrique Serrato collection.

Suzy González

Suzy González is an artist, curator, zinester, educator, and community organizer based in San Antonio, Texas. She has had solo exhibits at Presa House Gallery, Hello Studio, Palo Alto College, and two-person exhibits at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and the University of Connecticut. She has attended residencies at Vermont Studio Center (VT), the Trelex Residency (Peru), The Wassaic Residency (NY), Starry Night Residency (NM), the Studios at MASS MoCA (MA), and Hello Studio (TX). Suzy co-publishes Yes, Ma’am zine, co-organizes the San Anto Zine Fest, and is half of the collective Dos Mestizx, who recently curated XicanX: New Visions in New York and Texas and has a large-scale public artwork at the San Antonio International Airport. She has created public art with the City of San Antonio, San Antonio Street Art Initiative, Centro San Antonio, the City of San Marcos, and is currently working on murals with the City of Pasadena and the San Antonio Museum of Art. She received a 2017 National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) Fund for the Arts Grant, is a 2018 alum of the NALAC Leadership Institute, and a 2019 alum of the Intercultural Leadership Institute and NYFA Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program. Suzy holds an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and a BFA from Texas State University.

Brandy González

Brandy González was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. González completed her B.F.A. with a major in drawing and a minor in sculpture from SMU where she received the “Zelle Award” for outstanding artistic merit. She then taught art for eight years in the public school system during which she completed her M.A.E from TTU graduating with a 4.0 gpa in 2013. In May 2016, she completed her M.F.A also from TTU majoring in printmaking with a secondary in painting. While attending TTU she received the “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges” award and the “Horn Professors Graduate Achievement” award for her work in social activism through the arts. González was the art professor at Lassen College located in Susanville in Northern California. She and her husband have moved back home to San Antonio to be closer to family as her child will turned two in October. Currently, she is the advanced art teacher at Clark High School.

Manuela Gonzalez

As an active observer, I like to imagine spaces where my body and my spiritual aesthetic conjoin. I reflect on liminal spaces where my childhood home in Venezuela engulfs the background of everything I see in front of me — a lush, tropical sphere, with vibrant hues, and variating shades of green. A bubble in time where the brown body is exalted in a way that shuns fetishization, and embraces itself via its own lens. Somewhere in which I retain control, and I alone am the master of my perception. My ethnic roots are politicized, and my body may be also, but when I am at the helm of creating, all politicization is through my own hands and my own eyes. What do I want to say with my art? A celebration of the intersectional feminine — of not shying away from those aesthetics that make me, me. A cultural resurgence born from a lifetime of change and enculturation. A body with boundaries placed on it making room for growth, despite outward pressure. I want to elevate beauty, coordinate with nature, and take up space proudly, and with gusto.

M. Donna Good

M. Donna Good (°1941, Muskogee, Oklahoma, United States) is an associate member of The Texas Watercolor Society and River Art Group Gallery in historic La Villita on the San Antonio Riverwalk. As seen on Etsy, Pinterest, FB, IG, and Amazon, RQFA manufactures in and ships from the USA, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Donna's watercolor paintings and mixed media artworks develop through a radically singular approach of beauty that is nevertheless inscribed in the contemporary debate, Good uses references and ideas that are so integrated into the process of the composition of the work that you will want to take the time to explore how and why these images transport you. Her layered translucent watercolor works are a drawn reflection upon the art of painting itself: thoroughly self-referential from a thousand backroads driven with her husband and traveling buddy, Bob, through Texas, California, Montana, and Oklahoma researching family genealogy and fly-fishing and inscribing in the history of watercolor landscape – made present most palpably in the artist’s exploration of some of the most hallowed of watercolorist paradigms. M. Donna Good currently lives and works in San Antonio, Texas USA. Donna is known for her exquisitely detailed floral watercolor paintings and is an avid jigsaw puzzle enthusiast.

Larry Graeber

In 2019 my artist statement was lead by a quote from Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities, “it was the best of times, it was the worst of times…”. In 2020 “precarious fragility”, a terrestrial check on life, consumption and entitlement. Today, 2021, cautious reemergence. I am hopeful that as we refamiliarize ourselves with our world and communities some degree of honor and respect will characterize our conduct; compassion and grace for our neighbor, admiration and harmony towards our world. With some contemplation I think my work reflects these sentiments. principles of elements - With no agenda, the freedom I feel allows me to address any subject I like and has given way to a new productivity. The convergence, three or more things occurring or arriving at the same place at the same time fuels my perception of things. Often subtly but usually consequential. Similarly in my studio, the objective is to be engaged, alert and responsive. Surrounded by past work and some goals, convergences often occur and an unfinished drawing, painting, sculpture may get finished, or a new idea added to the “debris”. All in benefit of my hope to make coherent artifacts, intuitively accessible and subjectively understood.

Justice Graham

I look at art as a way to explore your own personal relationships and internal struggles; to examine them. With my work, though it is often difficult to escape narrative, I enjoy expressing short glimpses into worlds that help to shape ideas around identity and self, including the loss or discovery thereof. Currently, I focus on themes surrounding self-awareness and finding one's place within the world. I want to explore what makes our individuality unique and how our perception of what humanity should be can affect the individual. My own identity crisis drives my work. Being of mixed nationality, trying to find a solid place as a minority among minorities has been difficult. There is usually a large abundance of Japanese influence in my recent work as much of it has been focused on finding myself and who I am. The idea of finding oneself through art has always been a huge influence, as I use art as a means of therapy and work through problems by allowing my content to be the answer to my questions. Much of my work contains a child-like representation or animalistic entities; their identity is much more solid and without the questions of who or why they are. Doll-like or idealized subjects pepper themselves throughout much of my artwork. Most people either question or embrace who they are and where they came from and as such, have the ability to relate to my work. As the world progresses into a mixed bag of nationalities and backgrounds and we are exposed more and more to other influences that may not align with our own, how does a person continue to be themselves as an individual? Do external influences cause damage by exposing us to views that differ from our own? Can our self-perceptions be shaken or contorted by others? How do others’ perceptions of us, in turn, influence our own? Much of my current inspirations come from artists such as Dan Flavin with his work on light and color. The use of light to change the tone and context of 2D art has always interested me and the idea that the environment can change our perception has always been an exciting thing for me. Ei Arakawa is another influence due to his philosophy that accidents and mistakes are part of his process. Everything happens and it is possible that mistakes can bring about something new or undiscovered about yourself. There is a sense of rawness and reality from a freestyled piece, and the same school of thought is what draws me towards underground hip-hop as a source of constant inspiration. The content of the song or poem may be predetermined, but the execution is not. Much of my work tends to follow the same train of thought. Content-driven but the delivery varies. Much of my decision-making is spontaneous and less about the effect that they may have on the viewer. Printmaking has allowed the creation of much of my work to be different with each medium. With the multiple different processes and the multiple variations that are achievable by each, I am able to experiment with and adapt my artwork to fit depending on the type of print. Print is maneuverable and easy to take to the public. I appreciate the tradition of critique but I also am highly driven by the question “why not” rather than “why”.

Kellie Grengs

Kellie is a multidisciplinary artist with a background in theatrical costume design and architectural glass. She is an amateur published photographer for lifestyle publications. After residing in New Orleans since the early 90s, she is inspired by the micro and macro details of the landscape that surrounds us on a daily basis. She is fully embracing her new cityscape which is steeped in history, culture, and tradition.

Michael Guerra Foerster

Teaching Artist/Instructor; Visual Arts: Ceramist, Craftsperson, Illustrator, Maker, Mixed Media Artist, Painter, Photographer, Sculptor, Teaching Artist/Instructor, Visual Arts, Woodworker

My current body of work explores ideas of intimacy, separation, grief and memory through ceramic and unfired clay sculptures called Floops. This work finds its roots in my subconscious and touches upon the fundamental transformation of interpersonal relationships through time, the coping mechanisms used to bring closure to traumatic experiences, and the incredible toll of the human condition. The forms themselves are inviting, characterized by soft colors and playful expressions. It is through the use of the violent process of pit firing or the ephemeral nature of unfired clay that the objects are given histories or lifecycles, transforming them into manifestations of the more somber ideas prevalent in this work. Michael Guerra Foerster is an artist living and working in San Antonio, Texas. He received a BFA with a concentration in ceramics from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2018, has studied at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, co-created the zine Instant Noodles, and has exhibited nationally, including creating temporary and permanent public art pieces in San Antonio.

Angela Guerra Walley

Angela Guerra Walley is a multidisciplinary artist known for her advocacy of contemporary visual and performing arts through thoughtfully crafted documentary films and as the frontwoman of the indie pop band, Dreambored. A San Antonio native, Angela co-founded her independent video production studio, Walley Films, in 2010 with her husband and 19-year collaborator, Mark Lee Walley. Angela has produced short documentary film series for San Antonio Museum of Art, Moody Center for the Arts, Rice University Art Gallery, and Glasstire. Angela's photo and video art collaborations have been presented at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, McNay Art Museum, Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum, Sala Diaz, and Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center. In 2018 her feature-length documentary directorial debut, Tía Chuck: A Portrait of Chuck Ramirez, won Jury Prize Best San Antonio Filmmaker at the San Antonio Film Festival. In 2020 her band Dreambored released their debut album, Loved Ones, and in 2021 she co-wrote and directed a music video for their first single, Coming Down. Angela is currently developing a body of work for her debut solo art exhibition.

Martin Guerrero III

Percussionist for St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church Music Ministry and drummer, vocalist for @hrtbrkrsproject on IG. Martin Guerrero III is a singer-songwriter from San Antonio, Texas. Music started in early childhood and continued on into junior high and high school. He is also the former drummer for Baldemar and Opaque Ghost, locally known San Antonio, Texas bands. Martin has been apart of multiple church bands and musical groups, including Mistick Legion Drumline located at Traders Village in San Antonio, Texas You can find his music on SoundCloud below.

Jacinto Guevara

I have been an artist and "scholar" (jack-of-all-trades) all my life. I began drawing and painting before I could speak, according to my mother. I got into the 'business' of Art in 1986 and have supported myself as a painter/performing musician since then. I paint plein air works on large gessoed wood panels. I go on location, paint what I see, looking for interesting compositions of architecture, terrain, plants, streets and skies. I endeavor to capture the essence and atmosphere of a locale and maintain an open eye for unplanned objects or passersby to enhance the piece. As a performing musician, I started in 1986 and have played in various band-genres such as mariachi, Tex Mex conjunto, "rock", Cajun Zydeco and Americana or 1920s era pop jazz. I play (can PERFORM) diatonic accordion, Hammond organ, guitarrón (mariachi bass), acoustic guitar, (classical) quena, (Andean flute) tenor banjo, and sikus. (Andean pan-pipes)

Beatriz Guzman Velasquez

Beatriz Guzman Velasquez was born and raised in the Texas-U.S. Southwest/Mexican border region. She received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is an alumna from the New York Studio School and the University of Texas-Pan American. For the year 2021-2022, she is participating in DocX Archive Lab Fellowship at Duke University. Recently, she formed part of the National Association of Latinos Arts and Culture Fellowship and completed her residency at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. In 2019, she joined the New York Foundation for the Arts Immigrant Artist Program and was awarded Artist-In-Residence at Lazuli Residency in Vermont. She is the founder of Juana Simona, a space dedicated to creativity and the stewardship of the land.

Cheryl Handy

"I am a painter working in multiple media and all genre but my preferred categories are portraiture and figurative works. I look for the gestures, the expressions, and the body language that tells a story and I enjoy being the story teller. I love color and recently have been exploring more with mixed media and texture. Aside from portraits and figures, I also enjoy painting landscapes and still life. I often wish that I could sculpt and maybe someday I’ll learn but in the mean time I am always open to experimenting with my painting and pushing myself to new levels. I also wish I could sing but that will never happen 🙂 and I’m OK with that.

Joe Harjo

Joe Harjo is a multidisciplinary artist from the Muscogee (Creek) Nation of Oklahoma, currently working and teaching in San Antonio, TX. He holds a BFA from the University of Central Oklahoma and an MFA from the University of Texas at San Antonio. His work uncovers the lack of visibility of Native culture, lived experience and identity in America, due to both the absence of proper representation in mainstream culture and the undermining of Native belief systems. He confronts misrepresentation and appropriation of Native culture and identity, initiating a call for change.
